Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet)
Old CityAcross the square. Free. Closed to tourists during the five daily prayer times — check the board out front.
Topkapı Palace + Harem
Old CityBuy timed tickets online. Lots of walking and uneven stone — pace yourselves, take the courtyards as your rest stops. The Harem ticket is worth it.
Basilica Cistern
Old CityCool, dim, and atmospheric — a perfect midday heat break. Book online to skip the line.
Grand Bazaar
ShoppingGo in the morning when it's calmer. Cash + cards both work. Bargain politely, smile, walk away if you need to.
Spice Bazaar + Eminönü
ShoppingCombine with a balık ekmek lunch by the Galata Bridge. Buy tea, lokum, and saffron here.
Bosphorus ferry
On the waterThe single most relaxing thing in Istanbul. Take a public ferry from Eminönü to Üsküdar or up to Kanlıca for lunch. ~30₺, breezy, gorgeous.
Galata Tower + Karaköy
BeyoğluSkip the tower line — admire from below. Wander Karaköy's lanes, stop for coffee and baklava.
İstiklal Caddesi + Taksim
BeyoğluLong pedestrian street; ride the historic red tram one way. Daughter-friendly: vintage shops, music stores, side-street cafés.
Süleymaniye Mosque
Old CityLess crowded than the Blue Mosque, arguably more beautiful, with a sweeping view of the Golden Horn. Highly recommended.
Kadıköy (Asian side)
Asian sideFerry over for the morning market, a long lunch at Çiya, and a wander down Moda. Feels like a different city — calmer, leafier.
Çemberlitaş Hamamı
Treat yourselfA historic Ottoman bath. Wonderful for your mom — relaxing, attendants are kind. Book the traditional scrub + soap massage.
